Gastroenterology

This is a 3 hours workshop approved course for endoscopy trainees wishing to gain skills in upper GI Endoscopy. This is an intensive, interactive, practical course, covering the theoretical basis of performing a safe gastroscopy and safe effective peri-endoscopy management. The course includes a series of small working groups and one-to-one teaching sessions, videos, hands-on model work and supervised endoscopy. Each trainee will undertake one gastroscopy under the supervision of expert trainer. The one-to-one teaching focuses on the development of individualised learning outcomes and plans to progress skills.

This is a workshop which aims to provide the participant with the proper knowledge on how to obtain relevant information from the patient. Basic techniques in burns

This hands on workshop is related to both burns and plastic surgery.
Along with Senior Clinical Lecturer dr Ankur Pandya from Southhampton University Medical School and Portsmouth University, you’ll explore the fundamental principles of caring for burns and the effects of plastic surgery, covering:
• an introduction to burns
• an introduction to plastic surgery: skin grafts; flaps; replantation
• reconstructive surgery
• the ongoing management of burn injuries: wound healing and wound management

This is a complex area of practice, and our course will develop your ability to reflect on your own and others’ practice. There’ll also be opportunities to apply your new knowledge and skills.

What is physical trauma? Followed by a brief classification, after that, certain possible causes will be mentioned; then pathophysiology mechanisms explained and diagnosis also overviewed;
The main focus of this workshop are the Surgical techniques, which consist mainly in using a tube or catheter to drain fluid from the peritoneum, chest, or the pericardium around the heart, often are used in cases of severe blunt trauma to the chest or abdomen, especially when a person is experiencing early signs of shock. In those with low blood-pressure, likely because of bleeding in the abdominal cavity, cutting through the abdominal wall surgically is indicated.

If you know nothing about surgery, this is where you should start. The purpose of this workshop is to give you the opportunity to acquire elementary surgical notions. It offers the chance to learn about the basic surgical instruments and practice surgical knots as well as the most frequently used surgical sutures. The participants will also attend theoretical lectures which contain well-structured information. The practical component will be conducted by the instructors, whose indications will be followed step by step by the participants at their work desks. The long experience of the Romanian Students’ Society of Surgery guarantees a high-quality workshop.

Plastic Surgery- Hands-on Workshop

The workshop aims to offer the participants the chance to feel comfortable with the general and specific surgical instruments used in plastic surgery and to exercise the most common skin flaps in a truly professional while friendly environment. The workshop offers the key principles and a broad perspective of digestive surgery. The workshop offers the opportunity to learn advanced thoracic surgery techniques. This is a workshop in which you will learn the basics on how to save someone’s life in case of an emergency.
After this workshop you will be able to:
• provide appropriate treatment for the purpose of preserving life
• minimise the consequences of injury until the arrival of medical assistance
• provide appropriate treatment for an injury which does not require the attention of a medical practitioner or nurse
Also, you will become familiar with health & safety legislation on first aid in the workplace (e.g. Contents of First Aid Box)
